Millan mini: Week Twenty-Four
Info and photo courtesy of www.pregnancy.org:

  • Bring on the bulk! Baby gains about 6 ounces this week. The weight is in muscle, bone mass and organs.
  • His body begins to fill out with his appearance increasingly becoming more like a newborn.
  • Taste buds begin to form. If mom drinks something strange or bitter, baby may be observed showing his distaste.
  • Little creases have appeared on his palms. The muscular coordination of his hands has improved as he sucks his thumb.
  • Over the next seven days the sweat glands will be forming in the skin.
  • His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily.
  • This week your baby is officially considered viable.
  • Baby weighs 1.3 pound (600gm) and is 11.8 inches (30cm) long -- almost the length of a ruler!

"Thank ya, Grampa!"
When I bought my house it was clear that our spacious side-yard needed a great deal of TLC. This side-yard was actually used by the prior owners to keep their dogs in and it was in no condition for a toddler to play in. The dogs had dug up some of the sprinkler wire and there were rocks and dog droppings everywhere. As an added bonus, exposed electrical wire and an old gas line stuck out of the ground creating a clear safety hazard. Though it was gated and outside of Michelle's access, making the yard suitable for her had to become a top priority.

After digging and clearing the debris it became obvious that the real work would require a true professional. This is where my dad came in to save the day! Thanks to his help we not only got rid of the electrical and gas lines but we also put in a motion sensor light in the side yard and some new lamps for the outside of the garage (complete with a timer). I later installed another motion sensor lamp for the front exterior doorway and one more for the driveway.

After having removed the side-yard's gate our backyard feels as though it has doubled in size. Best of all, Michelle can finally play in her yard. The new lights on the garage look amazing as well! As Michelle would say, "Thank ya, Grampa!"
