Setup a Fedora Linux WebDAV server for iCal sharing
Based on: http://electronworks.com/dav/dav-jag.txt
Modified for: Fedora Linux Core 3 with Apache 2.0.52

1. Edit your Apache config file:

sudo vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (example)

2. Verify that the following lines exist and are uncommented to enable Apache's use of WebDAV:

LoadModule dav_module modules/mod_dav.so

DAVLockDB /var/lib/dav/lockdb

3. Add Apache security management of our WebDAV directory so that file and directory access attempts will be password protected:

<Directory "/mywebfilespath/webdav/">
DAV On
DAVMinTimeout 600
DAVDepthInfinity On

AllowOverride AuthConfig
AuthName "DAV Restricted"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /etc/httpd/.htaccess

Require valid-user
</Directory>

4. Create the 'AuthUserFile' with a specified username and password:

sudo htpasswd -m -c /etc/httpd/.htaccess davuser

5. Create the directory where your iCal calendar will be stored and set permissions:

sudo mkdir /mywebfilespath/webdav
sudo chmod -R 777 /mywebfilespath/webdav

6. Restart Apache:

sudo /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

From this point, you should be able to set up a new iCal calendar and publish it out to:

http://mydomain.net/webdav/iCal/

Be sure to use the username and password specified during Step #5. Use iCal's handy "Send Publish Email..." menu option to send out notices to those you wish to share your calendar with.

You Know You Are Living In 2005 When...
(This was emailed to me today)

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You go home after a long day at work you still answer the phone in a business manner.
7. You make phone calls from home, you accidentally dial "9" to get an outside line.
8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for three different companies.
10. You learn about your redundancy on the 11 o'clock news.
11. Your boss doesn't have the ability to do your job.
12. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home.
13. Every commercial on television has a website at the bottom of the screen.
14. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
15. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.
16. You start tilting your head sideways to smile.
17. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
18. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
19. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
20. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Google Maps Beta
Google Maps Beta was released to the public today.

Features include:
  • Map size adjustments based on browser window size.
  • Map can be drag-scrolled with mouse pointer.
  • New searches and directions updates do not reload the entire page.
  • Clicking on a targeted address reveals a pop-up with a zoomed-in map.
  • Clever navigation tools that result in smooth, non-page reloading updates to the map.

"And congratulations on your new home!!!"
Real Estate
Last Saturday we began our official walkthroughs of homes in the northern sections of La Verne and Glendora. This Saturday we finalized paperwork for the sale of our home and received official confirmation on the acceptance of an offer we placed on a house. A house, by the way, that we fell in love with at first sight.

This week has been an amazing one, to say the least!

This amazing feat was accomplished due to the great skill and determination of our real estate professionals, Marjorie Khawsy and Kerry Hale. Their professionalism, knowledge, responsiveness and diligence made it all possible and we are forever grateful to have worked with them. Marjorie and Kerry are a true power team and they definitely know how to get the job done right!

The L.A. Zoo
This morning Michelle visited the L.A. Zoo for the first time. She marveled at all of the animals but was most intrigued by the kangaroos and tortoises. Though the zoo was under heavy renovation, and despite the absence of a few animals, we still managed to have a good time.
